Six practical strategies to help you stop spinning and start winning + Bonus (but very important) Tip
Ask:
“What would future-me thank me for doing today?”
Try visualizing your future self: calm, thriving, grateful, curious, kind, creative, fun, etc (use your VIA signature strengths!)
Sticky note example: “Do this for Future Alex!”
Don’t rank. Just sort:
Now → Must do today
Next → Soon, but not urgent
Later → Safe to defer
WHY this matters: Great for reducing overwhelm and sparking clarity.
Ask:
“What happens if I don’t do this today?”
→ Then zoom out: next week? next month?
WHY this matters: Helps shift from reaction to intention.
Urgent = Barking Dog 🐶
Important = Sleeping Tiger 🐅
WHY this matters: The loud task isn’t always the vital one. Prioritize the tiger — it might look chill, but ignoring it bites hard later!
Draw a quick grid or use bullet points to classify place each task based on its impact and effort required:
High Impact & Low Effort
✅ DO FIRST
High Impact & High Effort
🧩 Break into steps
Low Impact & Low Effort
☕️ Do when tired or add to a pomodoro block
Low Impact & Low Effort
❌ Maybe skip or delegate
→ Prioritize tasks in the ✅ High Impact & Low Effort category.
Ask:
“What can give me a little spark today?”
Start with the task that feels most doable or energizing—even if it’s not “the most important.”
WHY this matters: Momentum beats perfection.
&& Bonus Tip: You don’t need a perfect list or strategy. You need a starting point. Pick a method that fits your brain today.
